Context

Ideation cycles demand significant effort and time.  Thinking of an idea can be immensely challenging for individuals as well as business groups. The timely presence of appropriate creative support can deeply transform ideation experiences.

Capacity building in design thinking for the organisation was a core function of the team. An AI-based aid was developed to improve efficiency of ideation cycles. This was a precursory step towards redefining human activities in light of emerging technology.

Conceptualisation
  • The scope for AI integration across the ideation flow was defined.

  • Explored possibilities to extend the applications of the AI-based aid.

  • A key set of functions for the aid were devised.

  • Wireframes were created with a team of a developer and a UX designer.

  • A prototype was made iteratively.

  • The prototype is actively deployed for ideation by the internal team.

Prompting
  • The team has a repository of ideation methods.

  • These were studied for compatibility and scope with AI capabilities.

  • An ideation method requiring a blend of generative and analytical content was chosen.

  • Prompts to generate content for ideation method and, subsequent ideas were run.

  • Output was evaluated until deemed suitable.

Tasks

Outcomes

My key tasks were :

  • Exploring repository of ideation methods

  • Breaking ideation method into smaller tasks

  • Exploring the scope of AI integration for tasks

  • Prompting and assessing AI outputs

  • Ideating the user flow

  • Wireframing screens

  • Brainstorming and iterating with team

The tool is actively used in the team’s design and research practice.

  • Ideation sessions were enhanced.

  • Project workflows are transitioning to incorporate a layer of AI-based creativity.
